Inspiring people part. 1

Many bloggers have been posting lists of people who inspire them and I decided to do that too. I'm already horrified of how long my list will be. Hopefully I can keep it as short as possible and tell about the most important people only. This is devided in two parts (at least) so that the posts won't be too long to read. Most of the people on my list are artists or illustrators because I love their creations and comics with all my heart. But now I'll stop explaining and start doing what I was supposed to do!

Anna-Varney Cantodea
Photo: http://www.angst-im-wald.com/media/sopor-aeternus/sanatorium-altrosa
She is the genious mind behind the band "Sopor Aeternus and The Ensemble of Shadows" and there is only one thing I can say about her - She is the Goddess! I love her style and I love her music. She is huge inspiration to me in every possible way. I haven't been this fascinated of anyone before (well, if you don't count the time I was about 9-12 years old and totally in love with Lauri Ylönen. You know I was sure that some day I would be Mrs. Ylönen..)

Tim Burton

Another genious. What else can I say? I keep other blog all about the stuff I have collected about his movies so yes - Tim Burton is huge inspiration to me. All the characters he has created, (almost) all his movies are the part reason for why I am who I am today. I found goth style via his movies. Yes, I was a goth when I was teenager. Maybe I will post some old pictures here someday as a proof...

 Roman Dirge

He was the first comicbook writer/illustrator I came across with and through his work I found all of the other artists who inspire me nowadays. Dirge will always be the number one for me of all the comicbook writers and his character Lenore, the Cute Little Dead Girl is everything I love - cute but deadly.

Jhonen Vasquez

He is the creator of the comicbook Johnny, the Homicidal Maniac and animated series Invader Zim. He is also one of my long time favourite artists and I have two of his characters tattooed on my skin. You might have noticed that all my tattoos are from comicbooks. I love Vasquez's twisted humour and I actually have bit of a crush on JTHM (yes, many people have crushes on fictional characters, it's perfectly normal right?)

Emilie Autumn

She makes amazing music and has even more amazing style. Her music has been there for me in good and bad times and I have gotten some inspiration to my own style from her. I actually had the dress you see in the picture custom made for my "prom dance" except I couldn't find the similar brown/black fabric so my dress is shiny black and blue,  not the exact copy of Emilie Autumn's dress though. It costs a lot but was 100% worth it. Here's the picture of the dress on me: (and yes it is an old picture, my hair has changed it's colour few times and years have passed)

24.5.2014 Gogol Bordello @ Pakkahuone, Tampere

Our internet hasn't been working at all for over two weeks, so I haven't had a chance to write here much. Anyway on last Saturday I went to see American gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello at Pakkahuone, Tampere. I have been listening their music for few years and I expected a lot from their live show but I was disappointed. I seemed like the band had a great time and so did most of the audience but I went to listen the band not to get drunk and dance. The songs were played as less punk versions and there was too much extra stuff going on. Other surprise was the audience which consisted of women wearing flower dresses and aged between 20 and 35 with their spouses. I don't know whether it was the multicultured image of the band or if their newest music is more radio friendly - anyhow something seemed to be wrong there. I'm still glad I went to see Gogol Bordello live. Might not go again though, at least I won't pay as much for the tickets as this time.

My diploma work

Sorry, this post will be only in English.

I have been quite busy with my diploma work at school. As you might or might not know I'm studying carpentry/joinery and since I have already graduated from upper secondary school (Finnish school system, you can google it) it takes only two to two and a half years to become carpenter. I could have graduated this spring but I wanted to stay at school till September or October because we have all the special skills in the beginning of next semester. I mean stuff like lathe work, wood inlay and wood crafts.
So my diploma work will be a rococo style chest of drawers. I actually wanted to make a bridge for garden but I had to come up with another idea because I was told that the diploma piece should have at least one moving part. I asked my mom if she wanted anything and she wished for a chest of drawers and that's how I ended up with this piece of furniture. First I had to search for pictures to get some kind of model for my work and I found the picture you can see below.

Photo from Google.
Since I'm not graduating yet I have lots of time to make this and don't have to stress about anything (well not yet at least..). I started designing in October and begun the actual work in April after I came back from Germany. Now I have almost gotten the frame done and it only needs few more grooves. Then I can paint it and glue it together, after that I can start making the drawers. Unlike in the model photo the final colour will be translucent white so that you can see the wood under the paint.

But enough of the talking, let's see the pictures! Sorry about the crappy smartphone quality.

10.5.2014 Burlesque Cocktail @ YO-talo, Tampere

This year I have gotten myself on some sort of going-mode and as you can see on the right side of this page I will be attending to more events this year than I did last year. Of course mostly because there are few great bands coming to Tampere. Last few year I have only been to like 1-2 gigs per year and it is not even close to enough live music to keep a person alive.
I have also been actively looking for local burlesque events and there are quite many of those here in Tampere. In last month I went to see queer burlesque (pictures and short text about it here) with my cousin  and yesterday I was at Yo-talo where they had this Burlesque Cocktail. We were a bit late so we missed the first two shows, such a shame.

Esiintymässä olivat // Wonderful performers were:

Holy Curves!
Finnish Blonde Burlesque Troupe
Olivia Rouge
Albine A. Dorable
Stella Polaire
Marie la Mint
Mimi de Froufrou
Sea Breeze
Maeu Darling
Sam Song
Ursula Dolores

sekä illan juontajana // and the host of the event Lafayette Lestrange

So here are some pictures from last night. Everyone had a great and unique show, it was pleaser to be there watching them!
